New in the The Hague: private school for leather bagmaking
Mrs. Rosehip is a well known bag designer based in The Hague. With her pleated leather bags she has conquered the heart of many bagfashionistas. Her work has already been shown in Milan at the Salone del Mobile in the Dutch Pavilion and she won De Bijenkorf Price for best female entrepreneur last year. Now she has started her own bagmaking school: cursustassenmaken.nl by Mrs. Rosehip. This is a private school for baglovers and for professionals, with courses and workshops in English and on request also in French.
‘’Every woman loves bags’’, says Roos van Put, director of the school and the driving force behind the brand Mrs. Rosehip. ‘’I started the school because I received quite a lot of requests of friends, who asked me if I could help them make a bespoke bag. I love to share my love for bags and my knowledge in how to make them in leather. Besides, I care for craftsmanship and I want to keep the crafts alive.’’
The school has 14 courses, for beginners and for advanced students. You start with a basic course, which lasts 3 hours. In this course you’ll learn the first principles of leather bagmaking and working with the industrial sewing machines. At the end of this course you’ll go home with a selfmade small, simple leather bag. Roos van Put: ‘’We keep our classes small, maximum 5 persons per class, to give everybody the attention they need. People with no experience at all went home with a bag they made. They were surprised by their own talent and skills they did not believe they had. It was great fun!’’
